Breaking news: Starbucks III!

Coming soon! Lyon's third and newest Starbucks location! Located on Rue de la République (that's right, just a hop-skip-jump down from their first location) between Cordeliers and Bellecour. This photo was taken just yesterday, so as you can see progress is being made and it should open soon!

Senor Carlos comes to Lyon!

Looking for authentic (and I mean authentic!) Chilean and Argentinian fare? Look no further than Senor Carlos, located at 49 rue de la Charité, just around the corner from Bellecour. His specialty is empanadas (baked or fried) including ricotta-spinach, shrimp-cheese, onion-corn, tuna, ham-cheese, chorizo-cheese, cheese-corn, and beef. And for dessert: sweet empanada with cheese and cinnamon.

Prices range from 3€ to 4.50€ for empanadas and 8.90€ for chili con carne with rice.

Open Tuesday-Saturday from 11:30am-2:30pm and 7pm-9:30pm.

You can find also Senor Carlos on Saturday and Sunday mornings at the Marché Quai Saint-Antoine, selling his famous empanadas.

Mastering the Art of French Eating

Episode 59 of the Nutrition Diva podcast takes a look at French cuisine, popularized recently by the film Julie and Julia. Do you think our local quenelles and andouillettes made the list of topics coverd? Maybe not - but the delicious French butter sure did!

You can listen to the podcast here: Nutrition Diva :: Mastering the Art of French Eating

The film will be released in Lyon on September 16th.

Self-guided walking tours in English

Taking a quick break from the food-related topics of Lyon Eats, I'd like to share a site I just found.

Guided Tours - France has published a series of Lyon walking tours in English which are available on their website. (Did I mention my second-favorite word? Free! What's my favorite word, you ask? Probably snack. Ooh, or dessert.)

Back to the tours... Each one includes a printable intinerary as well as Google maps.

Walking tour of Vieux Lyon

Walking tour of the traboules at the Croix Rousse

Their site has lots of other walking tours in French, so let's join together and thank them for the English translations... and hope they'll translate the others soon!

Starting with this one... Vélo'v biking tour

Found: ground cloves!

Maybe I'm just blind, but I have looked and looked for ground cloves and never found them in the five years I've been in Lyon - until this week, that is.

Bahadourian sells a 100g bag for only €2.95, both in their stores and online.

Pumpkin pie, molasses spice cookies, and better zucchini bread... here I come!

Starbucks at Monoprix!

Now available on the shelves at Monoprix (and coming soon to their online store):

Starbucks® Guatemala Antigua
"Our coffee buyers love this elegant coffee. With great depth of flavor, a luxurious texture, intriguing cocoa tones and soft nut flavors, it's no wonder."

Starbucks® Ethiopia Sidamo
"From the birthplace of coffee comes Sidamo - highly prized by coffee tasters all around the world for its fleeting, floral aroma and bright yet soft finish."

Starbucks® Sumatra
Rich, smooth, velvety and woodsy, with a distinct earthiness. No wonder it's our most popular single-origin coffee. We love the heavy, full body and the deep, intense aroma.

Starbucks® House Blend (also available for Tassimo)
"Starbucks signature blend and our most popular coffee. Ever. Light- to medium-bodied, this deliscious blend of Latin American beans defines the distinctive flavor of Starbucks."

Found: Fresh corn on the cob and U-pick it farm

That's right! Fresh sweet corn is available at Chapeau de Paille, just outside of Lyon in l'Ain. You can buy an ear for 50 centimes or 25 ears for 18 euros.

Visit the Chapeau de Paille website to find out what's in season on the Fraiseochamp U-pick it farm, which includes fresh flowers and herbs as well as fruits and vegetables. Happy picking!
